DANCER

About

This is my E-portfolio where I invite everyone to see who I am as a dancer and as a person. I've created this in the hopes that you can see all the great things that make life amazing!

About
Bio

My name is Dominique Ebba and I am a student at The Ohio State University currently pursuing a B.F.A. in Dance and following the Pre-Physical Therapy track. I am from Chesapeake, Virginia where my love for dance began at the age of two. I began attending a small studio at the age of six and continued finding a passion for the art as I matured through the years at what I consider my second home. During my tenure at my studio, I trained in ballet, jazz, tap, and contemporary under the direction of Lynne Overton and Nikia Burks. I also attended an arts high school in the Norfolk Arts District that allowed me to further my knowledge and skills of dance for four wonderful years. At The Governor's School for the Arts (GSA), I was able to study ballet, modern, and contemporary more thoroughly and gain a sense of maturity in my movement for all forms. I was gratefully given the opportunity to train under and be a part of pieces created by Todd Rosenlieb, Janelle Spruill, Janelle Smith-Ings, Joni Petre-Scholz, and Aileen Braun. All the many teachers I had the privilege of working with helped guide me to a mental and physical place of happiness. I'm excited to continue expanding my knowledge and love for dance during my years at OSU.

I dance because it makes me happy - a genuine sense of happiness. Dance provides me with a true feeling of joy that I feel internally and almost radiates outwards from every inch of my body rather than the more usual occurrence of happiness that flows inward from an external source. It quite honestly is difficult to illustrate the quantitative amount of happiness that sort of emits from my body as I dance, so I find it easier to say that it brings me more joy than a room full of puppies.

I dance because it brings me to a level of vulnerability that allows for research and exploration of myself - let's me find my true self. This vulnerable state is not negative in any way to my mind or my body. This form of vulnerability brings me out of my body and simply lets me move, but it also somehow keeps me within and allows me to focus on just me.

I dance because it has been a part of my life since before I can remember, and I truly cannot imagine my life without it. It's strange to think that I could have gone a different route, one that does not involve dance, because it's a life I see as impossible to live. As a human, I believe everyone deserves that one thing in their life that constantly feels like a gift. Without dance, I feel like my life would be beyond incomplete - deprived of everything dance has to offer, things I cannot always explain but still hope others can experience.

Performance

Performing has always been an important focus throughout my years of dancing. Concert dance, commercial dance - anything I could perform I loved. I'm excited to continue my experiences on stage and in rehearsals during my years at OSU, expanding my love and knowledge for dance as well as building new relationships with others who share my passion.

Creative Technology

I was introduced to the world of creative technology in this first semester of school and it has completely opened up my eyes to the possibilities of dance and technology. I want to continue finding innovative ways to express dance as an art form through photography and film.

Choreography and Analysis

During my time at OSU, I hope to gain more of a sense of who I am as a choreographer. I want to continue exploring the different techniques of creating movement that best fit me. I have recently learned the analysis of movement can help in making movement. I wish to continue growing and allow myself to discover the possibilities of movement.
